The Bride! arrives, Hoppers hop into screens, we get some Mother’s Pride, and get chills with Dolly in cinemas this week!
As we head towards the start of the summer movie season and all those blockbusters, the build-up towards the year’s biggest movies has begun. Hitting screens this week, the first release week of March, are some extremely big movies. Leading the charge onto cinema screens are The Bride! and Hoppers. These two movies alone should bring in the box-office cash that studios dream about. Also hitting the multiplexes this week is the British comedy drama, Mother’s Pride. With four other films also opening this week, there’s plenty for any cinephile to get excited about.

Strangely, there hasn’t been an advanced screening of the film for the press and film critics. However, it looks like an interesting and entirely new take on the material, even if it could prove decisive.

Our reviewer, Thomas Storai, had fun with the film, saying in his review:
“Hoppers is a pleasant surprise. It’s an entertaining film that delivers many laugh-out-loud moments while also being a compelling ecological fable that offers plenty of food for thought. The animation style is refreshing, standing apart from the usual Pixar films.”

We saw the film earlier this week, and had great fun with it. I said in my review:
“While it doesn’t reinvent the wheel of horror/slasher movies, Rod Blackhurst’s Dolly is a great throwback to those 1970s/1980s slasher flicks. It does enough to convince us to require more of the two main characters and a prequel showing us what went on previously in Dolly’s life. Although we can get a sort of picture with this film, we need to know more so we can understand it better. Perhaps that’s what Rod Blackhurst is aiming for. To be honest, he does deserve to get the chance to tell the backstory of Dolly’s life and existence. There’s more to the story than the startling image of her cradling a headless body at the start of the film before chopping off one of its fingers. Why is she doing this? We want and need to know.”
