Get ready to feel the need, the need for speed, all over again. The classic Tom Cruise movie, Top Gun, returns to screens for one week only for its 40th anniversary.
Fortieth anniversary? Really? Ok, I know we had to wait thirty-six years for the sequel, but has it really been forty years since we first felt the need, the need for speed? I can still remember going to see the original Top Gun at the movies back in 1986, experiencing the film as it was meant to be seen: on a big screen, with terrific sound, and being held spellbound in my seat at what I was watching. Fast forward thirty-six years, and the sequel, Top Gun: Maverick, blew me away all over again. I saw the film twice in theaters, once in IMAX and once in IMAX 4DX. I thought it was over. How wrong I was. Not only are we getting a third film in the franchise, but the original film is returning.

Yes, that’s right. If you feel the need…Two films. One big screen. Both films will be back in theatres on May 13th for one week only. Now the younger generation can sit back and experience the original movie as we all saw it back in the eighties. In addition, even we, the older generation, can re-experience the film in ways we could only dream of. Top Gun‘s 40th anniversary will be in theaters in Dolby Cinema, 4DX, ScreenX, Premium Large Formats, and IMAX. What is now commonplace for up-to-date new releases is being given to the classic Tom Cruise film. What could be better than going to see the film again…for the first time in one of the newer formats made for the big screen?

TOP GUN PREMISE
A class of elite, hotshot Navy pilots at the Fighter Weapons School known as Top Gun push their aircraft and each other to the limits. They compete to be the best of the best. Tom Cruise stars as Pete “Maverick” Mitchell in the iconic 1986 blockbuster. The film defined a generation.

TOP GUN: MAVERICK PREMISE
After more than 30 years of service as one of the Navy’s top aviators, Pete “Maverick” Mitchell is where he belongs. He is pushing the envelope as a courageous test pilot. He is also dodging the advancement in rank that would ground him. Later, he finds himself training a detachment of Top Gun graduates for a specialized mission. The mission is one the likes of which no living pilot has ever seen. Maverick encounters Lt. Bradley Bradshaw, Call sign “Rooster”, the son of Maverick’s late friend. That friend is radar intercept officer Lt. Nick Bradshaw, aka “Goose”. Confronting an uncertain future and the ghosts of his past, Maverick faces his deepest fears head-on. Consequently, this leads to a mission that demands the ultimate sacrifice from those selected to fly it.

Top Gun and Top Gun: Maverick return to theaters for one week only, starting on May 13th. Both films are up there with the best of the best. Now, just let me sit back in a darkened theater and let the classic Top Gun anthem and the roar of those jet engines blow me away all over again!
