Welcome to The Official UK Box Office Top Ten.
This weekend at the UK box office sees the previous number one movie dethroned to number two, five new entries, and two rereleases. But what are these new entries, and which movie has returned to number one? Have audiences lost interest in the rereleases? Put on your aviators and your favorite Michael Jackson song to find out.
(1) Michael
Claiming the top spot back after two weekends, Michael proves it’s still going strong with £4,432,923 after four weeks of release, bringing its total as of Sunday to £40,515,865. There’s no sign of it slowing down either.

(2) The Devil Wears Prada 2
After spending two weeks at number one, The Devil Wears Prada 2 has been fired out of the top spot, losing out to Michael by £1,255,201. Still, £3,177,722 in its third weekend is a respectable amount, bringing its overall total to £27,295,316.
(3) The Sheep Detectives
Holding its number three spot, The Sheep Detectives brings in another £1,380,614. It’s 58% drop from its first weekend can only be described as baaaaad, with its total gross by Sunday coming in at £5,454,156. The sheep have a new job: investigate why their own movie is struggling.

(4) Obsession
The first new debut at the weekend box office for 15-17 May, Obsession brings in a respectable £1,342,900. Director, writer, and editor Curry Barker proves once again that YouTubers can successfully enter the film space, following Markiplier’s success at the start of the year and shaking up the industry.
(5) Mortal Kombat II
Warner Bros. Discovery’s Mortal Kombat II continues its box office run, holding the number five spot for another weekend with £603,111. Director Simon McQuoid’s video game adaptation brings Johnny Cage to the screen and gears up for more deadly fights.

(6) Top Gun (40th Anniversary)
Top Gun 40th (Anniversary) brings in £520,907, a small tidy sum for the legendary pilot Maverick. The ace pilot jets into cinemas showing the start of his reckless pursuits, as they train at the TOPGUN fighter school.
(7) The Christophers
An independent film from Picture House Entertainment, The Christophers, brought in £397,537 during its opening weekend. A comedy film from director Steven Soderbergh, the film sees artist Lori take care of the aging artist Julian Sklar, and forge his unfinished canvas to secure his inheritance when he dies.
(8) The Super Mario Galaxy Movie
Even after seven weeks of release, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is still going strong with £374,394 during 15-17 May. Nintendo’s and Illumination’s animated sequel will likely just squeak past the £40,000,000 mark when its box office run ends. As of the end of Sunday, it stands at £37,348,348.

(9) Shrek (Re: 2026)
Ahead of Shrek 5 coming out in 2027, Shrek (Re: 2026) brings in £242,889 in its first week. Shrek was (and still is) a piece of animated and comedic genius, which is likely what Universal wanted to remind audiences just over a year away before his cinematic return.
(10) Athiradi
Rounding out the top ten, opening at £241,737 in only 74 cinemas, Athiradi is an Indian film that follows energetic engineering student Samkutty as he seeks to revive the Arohan festival after a deadly stampede.
