The Box Office Top 10 | The UK Top 10 (19-21 June)

Explore the films at the UK box office and discover the top films of the weekend at the cinema.

Welcome to The Official UK Box Office Top 10. Here you’ll find the latest Box Office Top 10 and the biggest hits in cinemas right now.

This weekend at the UK box office, Disney reopened the toy box once again with Toy Story 5, which naturally opened extremely high. Only one other film dared open against the behemoth of Toy Story 5; the rest are holdovers from previous weeks. Read on to find out just how well Toy Story 5 did and where the rest of the box office lands.

(1) Toy Story 5

To no one’s surprise, Toy Story 5 opened extremely well, pulling in a total of £15,361,194. To put that into perspective, in one weekend, Toy Story 5 made just under The Mandalorian and Grogu’s entire UK total of £15,388,306. In terms of how well the film has done in the franchise, it opened above the previous installment, Toy Story 4, which brought in £13,300,000 unadjusted for inflation back in 2019.

(2) Disclosure Day

In a distant second place, Disclosure Day brought in £1,722,597 in its second weekend, a 69% drop from weekend one. This is a harsh drop for the alien sci-fi. Audiences clearly haven’t resonated with the film in the way that Universal had hoped.

(3) Obsession

Still going strong, Obsession keeps pulling people back to the cinema, pulling in £924,703, a 39% drop in its sixth weekend of release. The film’s legs have been really impressive, with the film holding strong against major franchises like Masters of the Universe, Scary Movie, and Star Wars. The film’s total of £15,366,392 is just about to overtake that of The Mandalorian and Grogu (though Obsession has been in cinemas a week longer, the fact that there’s even competition is impressive).

(4) Scary Movie

Scary Movie has another sharp drop in its third weekend, down 61% from its second-weekend total, bringing in £556,487. Audiences aren’t staying long-term for the film, demonstrating the top-heavy nature of its opening weekend.

(5) Backrooms

Backrooms doesn’t have quite as strong legs at the UK box office as its counterpart, Obsession, bringing in £445,285,
dropping 54% in its fourth weekend. But it is still very successful, and both director Kane Parsons and A24 will be happy with the film’s performance.

(6) Masters Of The Universe

From the box-office success of Backrooms to the box-office disaster of Masters of the Universe, the attempted franchise revival could only muster £396,381 in its third weekend, down 54%. Its overall total is £4,965,546, meaning it has no chance of catching the runaway success of Backrooms (which sits at £11,781,211) or Obsession (£15,366,392 after 6 weekends).

(7) Michael

Nine weekends after its initial release, Michael still sits comfortably within the top ten. It pulled in £319,376, adding to its ever-growing overall total of £52,424,692. It’s the top UK film of the year, and it’s likely to stay that way.

(8) Star Wars: The Mandalorian And Grogu

Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu could only muster £219,506 in their fifth weekend, a disappointing total for a disappointing box office run. Its time left in the top ten is limited.

(9) Cocktail 2

The only other new film for the 19-21 weekend, Cocktail 2, opened to £189,168. The film is from Bakrania Media, a distributor of Indian films. Cocktail 2 is a spiritual sequel to the 2012 film Cocktail and is an Indian Hindi-language romantic comedy-drama film.

(10) The Devil Wears Prada 2

Barely clinging on to the number ten spot, The Devil Wears Prada 2 brings in £84,664 in its eighth weekend. This will be its final appearance in the top ten, and it’s been an impressive run, with the film bringing in £34,129,624 overall.

Next weekend sees the second installment in James Gunn’s new DCU, Supergirl.
