When Leia became my role model
To celebrate May The Fourth, I am sharing with you 4 of my favorite Leia moments from Star Wars: A New Hope.
Leia first faces Darth Vader
This one of my favorite Leia moments because we just saw this scary black lord in a mask and a cape just kill the captain of her ship. However, Leia stood before him without showing any fear. This is the moment that I realized that even though Leia was a prisoner of this evil character, she was not a traditional damsel in distress.
When Leia faces Tarkin on The Death Star
Another of my favorite moments is when Leia faces Tarkin with composure and dignity, even though he is threatening her with execution. Leia not only does not show any fear, but she verbally fences with Tarkin during the confrontation as well. Some of my favorite lines that Leia says in A New Hope is when confronting Tarkin including:
“I recognized your fowl stench when I was brought on board”
“The more you tighten your grip Tarkin. The more Star systems will slip through your fingers”
When Leia first meets Luke
This is the moment when Leia first meets Luke. When Luke entered her cell, she did not ask what he wanted or what was going, instead she asked him this famous question: “Aren’t you a little short for a Stormtrooper”. This showed that despite Leia’s circumstances she is very good at observing and of course speaking her mind.
When Leia first grabs the gun from Luke during the escape
Finally, this is the moment that I believe really defines Leia’s character. Instead of waiting for her two rescuers to figure out how to get away from the Stormtroopers firing at them, Leia comes up with a plan and acts on it. Leia evaluating the situation, coming up with a plan and acting on it without even consulting her rescuers is the moment when she became my role model! I so wanted to be like her when I grew up!
So what are your favorite Leia moments from A New Hope?
