Get ready for a new and brutal Hellboy. Lionsgate has released the red-band trailer showcasing Mike Mignola’s iconic character’s intense battles.
Hold onto your butts! Lionsgate has released the latest action-packed red-band trailer for the upcoming reboot of the HELLBOY franchise, which finds Mike Mignola’s “Big Red” caught between the worlds as he battles an ancient sorceress bent on bringing the end of days. Fans have been promised a far darker, harder-edged version of the character than the previous Ron Pearlman adventures and the all-new red-band trailer delivers on that promise and then some.
David Harbour has stated that his interpretation of Hellboy will find the title character much more brutal than we’ve previously seen, and this new trailer reveals that in abundance. “There’s really a sense that you’re actually killing things, even if they are giants or monsters. You’re chopping their heads off, you’re bathing in their blood, and you’re feeling the complex feelings of actually cutting the heart out of another thing,” Harbour said. “We’re taking the time to deal with the fact that Hellboy is a killer. He’s a weapon.”Â

Guillermo Del Toro’s version of the character was a blast—light and fun yet still capturing the dark essence of the original story. It’s a shame his trilogy won’t be finished, but the upcoming reboot of the Hellboy series should soften the blow. David Harbour is a great actor, and fans are excited to see what he brings to the table. But will people accept his take on Big Red? Only time will tell.
Hellboy will bring a new level of hell to cinemas on April 12, 2019
