The 10 Episode animated prequel series will follow the adventures of Mr Wing and a little Mogwai called Gizmo

Several months ago, we revealed the news that Warner Bros. had begun production on an all-new Gremlins animated series intended to headline its all-new streaming service. The series was mooted to be a prequel series to the iconic 1984 movie and would be one of the crowning jewels in the WarnerMedia crown.

Since then the project had vanished into the secret vault at Warner Bros. but all that is about to change because Warner Bros. has now confirmed a ten-episode series order for Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai. The highly anticipated series will follow the adventures of Sam Wing (the elderly shopkeeper from the movies) and reveal how he came across the adorable little Mogwai named Gizmo.

The official line about the series is as follows:
“Along with a teenage street thief named Elle, Sam and Gizmo take a perilous journey through the Chinese countryside, encountering, and sometimes battling, colourful monsters and spirits from Chinese folklore. On their quest to return Gizmo to his family and uncover a legendary treasure, they are pursued by a power-hungry industrialist and his growing army of evil Gremlins.”
Gotham‘s Tze Chun has been commissioned to write the series and will also serve as executive producer. The series itself will be produced by Amblin Television.

As yet, the series doesn’t have an official air date, however, with a devoted fanbase clamouring for new Gremlins content one would think Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai will be one of the first of many new shows to debut on the platform close to launching.
