Danny Elfman To Score Doctor Strange 2

Danny Elfman to reunite with Sam Raimi to bring some musical continuity to the expanding Marvel Multiverse

DANNY ELFMAN is reuniting with Sam Raimi to bring the soundtrack for Doctor Strange And The Multiverse Of Madness to life. Raimi has opted to bring in Elfman in place of Michael Giacchino who turned in a noteworthy score for the previous outing.

In a candid interview with Inverse, the acclaimed composer spoke of his excitement about returning to the Marvel Universe. And although he couldn’t reveal too much about the project, he confirmed that pre-work is already well underway.

“I am starting to do bits of pre-work for Doctor Strange 2 that Sam Raimi’s directing,” Elfman tells Inverse. “Even though I don’t start it for some months, there’s bits of recorded music they need for the sets.”

STRANGE TIMES

His involvement in Doctor Strange 2 marks a reunion between Raimi and the composer. The duo fell out famously ahead of filming Spider-Man 3 in 2007 which eventually led to Elfman’s departure. But the broken fences appear to have been repaired. The duo collaborated again in 2011 on Oz The Great And Powerful, but this will be the first foray into the MCU as a team. Elfman famously scored Joss Whedon’s Marvel blockbuster Avengers: Age Of Ultron alongside Brian Tyler. But, the pair were replaced for the resulting sequels by the returning Alan Silvestri.

DARK TIMES

In fairness, Elfman’s appointment shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. Kevin Feige has been eager to stress that the sequel will be horror-inspired. A genre Elfman is renowned for. And what’s more, the movie is expected to influence the events of Spider-Man 3, which is rumored to feature more than one web-slinger. If the rumors are true, and Tobey Maguire suits up as Spider-Man again, who better to score his epic return than the composer of the original movie?

Although his appointment doesn’t confirm these rumors. Fans can rest assured that Raimi is bringing back as many elements from his Spidey movies as he can. Either way, it makes for one hell of a ride when the movie finally hits our screens.

Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness will release in 2022.
