Darcie explores Disney’s new nuiMOs plush collection and discovers the ultimate customizable fashion accessory
Last week I decided to treat myself to Disney’s new craze – nuiMOs. These new little toys are set to be all the newest park accessories, they are poseable, you can dress them in a range of outfits and they look adorable. The name of the toys, nuiMOs comes from the Japanese words nuigurumi which means “stuffed toy”. This is exactly what a nuiMOs is – they are a poseable plush. Currently, there are six plush characters available and two collections of clothes. One of which was designed by Star Wars‘ own Ashley Eckstein.
What Characters are there?
Currently, there are Six characters: Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, Stitch, and Angel. I got Daisy and she is so cute. The characters themselves cost £12.95 which for the size of them may seem quite pricey, but the price is worth it. Whilst they are quite small (no larger 19cmx 10cm) they do have some very cool features. They have magnetic hands, so they can hold hands with other nuiMOs. They also stand without support.
But the best thing about these toys is the ability to make them pose. Their arms and legs can bend and be moved to create both cute and funny poses. And Disney has even released downloadable backgrounds so you can take the perfect Instagram-ready shot of your nuiMOs. It looks like more characters will be available soon, including Winnie-the-Pooh characters.
Dress Up Time!
The greatest feature of nuiMOs is the clothes. Outfits can be purchased for all of the characters. On the first of each month, a new clothing range will be released on Shop Disney. January’s collection was Fashion. 15 outfits were in this collection, which featured mainly everyday looks – from leopard print coats to hoodies and cowboy boots. There is an outfit to match your style and some really fun ways to dress your nuiMOs.
February’s collection was Everyday Cosplay and was designed by Ashely Eckstein and Wes Jenkins. These outfits are brilliant. The characters represented in the cosplay collection are Ahsoka Tano, Alice (Alice in Wonderland), Bo Peep, Cheshire Cat, Cinderella, Rapunzel, Oogie Boogie, Woody, and the Queen of Hearts.
I brought the Rapunzel one and was surprised by the good quality. The outfit came with a top, dungarees, shoes, and a hat – Daisy Duck looks ready for a trip to Disneyland. The next collection comes out in March and will be a fashion collection. But we already know that there will be spirit jerseys and Loungfly bags available soon – which means you and your nuiMO can dress the same on a trip to Disneyland.
When I ordered I was skeptical as to the quality and design of these toys. However I am so impressed, they do stand unsupported and they really are poseable. I can see myself taking my Daisy Duck nuiMO on my next trip to Disney and matching her outfit to mine where possible. With new clothing collections being released each month there are sure to be many more amazing and creative outfits to dress the toys in. Will they be the next must-have park accessory? I can certainly see it happening.
The nuiMo collection is exclusive to ShopDisney and is available to explore now.
