The Bad Batch delivers an entertaining and dark episode as our heroes venture into the criminal world
It’s time for our weekly dose of Star Wars with the thirteenth episode of The Bad Batch. This one is untitled ‘Infested.’
STORY
After spending two weeks on Ryloth, we spend the episode on Ord Mantell once again. There is no Imperial presence. Indeed, the focus is on gangster/scoundrel matters. This time, The Bad Batch has to help Cid get back her bar from Roland Durand. Speaking of gangsters, we also get to see the Pykes again, which makes me wonder if we may not see Maul later on in the series or at least get a mention of him.
I like that this show goes from episodes that deal with the Empire to episodes that focus on the criminal world. It allows exploring different aspects of that era. This episode is quite entertaining. And it’s also really dark. The Pykes are no laughing matters.
And to spice it up, even more, The Bad Batch also has to face some nasty creatures the Irlings. The two scenes with the Irlings are anxiety-inducing. It’s dark, you know they’re somewhere but you just don’t know exactly when they’ll come. When they finally come, you see a big hive charging at our heroes.
VISUALS
I say it every week but the visuals are amazing! It’s important to mention the hard work the animation team has done! The shots of the Ord Mantell city are impressive. The lighting gives it an even more of a cinematic feel.
I want to mention the scenes with the hive. The visuals create this anxious atmosphere. It’s dark, the only lights you see are the flashlight held by the characters. Then you see the cobwebs all around. Things are slowly being set up and then you get to see this big hive. You don’t get close-ups of the Irlings, it all goes so fast but you still see what kind of insects they are.
VERDICT
The Bad Batch delivers an entertaining and dark episode as our heroes venture into the criminal world.
