The Ray and Diana Harryhausen Foundation has opened submissions for The Harryhausen Awards

Back in July, The Ray and Diana Harryhausen Foundation announced an exciting new film awards program. The Ray Harryhausen Awards will both honor the legendary master of stop-motion animation and the creative talents that he has inspired. And at long last, submissions are now open. The following categories are now looking for candidates.

  • Best Feature Film Animation
  • Best Short Film Animation
  • Best Student Film Animation
  • Best Commercial Film Animation
  • Best Online Film Animation
  • Best Television Animation
  • Harryhausen Hall of Fame Award

Ray’s daughter, Vanessa Harryhausen said of the awards Dad always recognized the strong educational aspect of his work. I hope that these awards will encourage a new generation of animators to be inspired and follow their own dreams.”

Trustee of the Foundation and friend of the site John Walsh added: Ray Harryhausen’s influence on cinema past and present is truly titanic. I devised these awards in Ray’s name to recognize new standards of excellence in the growing field of animation.

The first awards will be held on June 29th, 2022, with a special screening event to follow at the Edinburgh Filmhouse. Check out the newly unveiled award bust which you can see below:

A CENTENARY TO REMEMBER

Ray’s centenary year was a joy to behold. Thanks, in part to the Ray Harryhausen Titan Of Cinema exhibition at the National Gallery; which is now entering the twilight of its run. If you’re in the area and able to travel, we’d urge you to do go. This is one exhibition you cannot afford to miss. The Children Of The Hydra’s Teeth demand no less!
