“The Hot Toys Axe Woves is another fine addition to your Mandalorian collection. However, it is a shame there is no headsculpt.”
It’s time to return to the MandoVerse for our latest Hot Toys review. And have another Mandalorian figure for you. This time, it’s Axe Woves who made his debut in The Mandalorian season 2 and featured heavily in the finale of season 3. So dust off your jetpack and join us as we go beyond the box.
THE BOX AND ACCESSORIES
This is your usual Star Wars collectibles box, which means it’s a black box with a promotional picture of the figure and the Star Wars logo. The figures from The Mandalorian have an orange/brownish colored strip with two more pictures of the figure.
In terms of accessories, Axe comes with the bare minimum. It is disappointing but I already knew that when getting the figure. It’s a shame they didn’t include a head sculpt featuring the likeness of Simon Kassianides. The only reason I could think of why they didn’t do it is because Axe Woves was originally supposed to die in his season 2 episode. So, they probably thought it was useless to make an headsculpt of someone we would only see in one episode.
DISPLAY BASE
The display base is the same grid base that came with Koska Reeves and Bo-Katan except like Koska, it doesn’t come with the guardrail. It’s a simple and nice base. The stand is a dynamic one, so be careful with that. Then, he has six hands. Two fist hands, two hands to hold his weapon, and two open hands. As for the weapons, he comes with the classic Mandalorian WESTAR-35 blaster pistol. It’s a blaster we have seen with other Mandalorian figures before. It’s nicely sculpted with different shades of metallic grey.
He also has his jetpack and thruster effects. The jetpack has weathering and battle scratches giving it the warrior look. As usual with jetpacks, you can attach thruster effects. Finally, like Koska and Bo-Katan, Axe comes with a background representing a part of an Imperial Gozanti-Class Cruiser. It’s always cool when Hot Toys gives us a background for our figures.
THE FIGURE
Axe Woves is another fine Mandalorian figure. He uses the same mold as the Death Watch Mandalorian figure that was released a while ago. It’s essentially a repaint. They applied weathering on the armor pieces and there are also several battle scratches. It looks cool.
The boots are two separate pieces with the top being made of pleather. So, you have feet articulation but you need to be careful about how you place the top of the boots so the pleather doesn’t get damaged over time. The belt and holster are also made of pleather. It’s easy to insert the blaster in the holster. As usual with helmets, the antenna can move.
