Tom Cruise in Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning from Paramount Pictures and Skydance.
The Hollywood actors’ strike sees the Mission: Impossible sequel and other movies delayed. Get the details here.
The continuing actors’ strike in Hollywood has made Tom Cruise’s life a Mission: Impossible. The action sequel, Mission: Impossible-Dead Reckoning Part Two has been delayed. The film is one of three movies that Paramount Pictures has pushed back due to the industrial action. Although the news won’t come as much of a shock or surprise, it will still upset the legions of fans who were looking forward to the conclusion of Ethan Hunt’s story next year.

MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE-DEAD RECKONING PART TWO
Out of the three movies that have been delayed, Tom Cruise’s swansong as Ethan Hunt is the biggest. The film was due for release on June 28th, 2024. Instead, it will now open on May 23rd, 2025. Also, it is expected that the film will undergo a title change. It will not keep the Dead Reckoning Part Two title.
It isn’t that big of a shock. The film, although just starting shooting before the strikes bit, wouldn’t be remotely ready for its intended release date. These films take time to plan and execute the incredible stunts that we see on screen. And to shoot the crux of the story. By pushing the film back by almost a year, it gives everyone the time to make the sequel the best it can be.

A QUIET PLACE: DAY ONE
Another casualty of the delays is the prequel, A Quiet Place: Day One. The film, written and directed by Michael Sarnoski, based on an original story by John Krasinski moves out of its March 8th, 2024 slot to fill Mission: Impossible’s June 28th, 2024 date instead. Starring Lupita Nyong’o, Joseph Quinn, Alex Wolff, Denis O’Hare, and Djimon Hounsou, the film is the third instalment in the franchise.

SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS: THE SEARCH FOR SQUAREPANTS
Finally, SpongeBob Squarepants: The Search For Squarepants has been delayed. The film was originally due to open on May 23rd, 2025 but will now see a Christmas opening on December 19th, 2025 instead.

With the Hollywood Studios’ unwillingness to discuss a solution to the problem and the strikes, it can only be a matter of time before more big movies get delayed. After the delays to Warner Bros. and Sony content, and now with Paramount, we have to ask ourselves which other movies we won’t get to see as planned. With neither side willing to break the strikes, we could be in for a lean movie-going experience in 2024. Time will tell.
