An angry Eighth Wonder of the World prepares for battle in our first look at GODZILLA x KONG: THE NEW EMPIRE
The countdown has begun to GODZILLA x KONG: THE NEW EMPIRE. The upcoming sequel to Adam Wingard’s Godzilla vs Kong is rampaging into cinemas in April. But just days after the first character posters emerged from the MonsterVerse, some new images materialized.
Three all-new and glorious images have been shared by the team at Warner Bros. They reveal our first look at Kong wielding his trusty battle axe, Godzilla emerging from the bedrock of the hollow earth, and one featuring the cast of this new monster adventure. But before we get ahead of ourselves, rampage down and explore the pics below.

THE MONSTERVERSE
It is wonderful to see Kong back in action and wielding his trusty battle axe. The weapon featured prominently in the previous outing and was clinical in the destruction of Mechagodzilla. So seeing Kong brandishing its deadly blade again is epic. As is the picture revealing Godzilla emerging from the bedrock. Adam Wingard saturated the last adventure in magnificent neon colors, and it looks as if this outing will do the same. And of course, it’s great to see some familiar faces from Godzilla vs Kong. Sadly as of press time, there is still no confirmation about a potential return for Mille Bobby Brown, Kyle Chandler, Julian Dennison, or Alexander Skarsgard.
But let’s face it, the Titans are the real stars of this show. And the Skar King – a colossal kaiju ape is on hand to challenge our two titans for supremacy this time around! The Skar King is described as “a devilish, Kong-type character” by Adam Wingard. In a recent interview with IGN, the director spoke about creating a creature that could rival both Godzilla and Kong. He said, “There’s a lot more to this character and how he’s a threat, and that’s going to be something that’s going to be fun to kind of dole out.”

For this outing, Adam Wingard is returning to the director’s chair. As are many familiar faces from his last adventure. Returning cast members include Rebecca Hall as Dr. Ilene Andrews, Brian Tyree Henry as Bernie Hayes, and Kaylee Hottle as Jia. Newcomers to the MonsterVerse include Dan Stevens, Fala Chen, Alex Ferns, and Rachel House.
MONARCH REIGNS
Of course, fans of the Kaiju fun don’t need to wait until April to explore the legacy of the MonsterVerse. Apple TV+’s sensational new series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is currently streaming on the platform and delivers a masterclass of storytelling. In my glowing review, I said “MONARCH: LEGACY OF MONSTERS is a revelation. It boasts standout performances from its cast, a compelling storyline, and adds some much-needed gravitas to the MonsterVerse as a whole. Although the series utilizes some of the franchise’s biggest stars, this story is about the incredible individuals responsible for creating Monarch as a whole. As well as the fabric of the entity itself. What we are rewarded with is a gloriously compelling series that is rich in story, light on disappointment, and colossal in monster action.” Read my full review here.

How Adam Wingard’s latest blockbuster will affect the landscape of the MonsterVerse remains to be seen. But with Kong looking to obtain his crown and Godzilla looking to cement his reign, the Skar King is in for the fight of his life. And in this universe – KONG IS KING!
