The Oscars have been handed out in Hollywood. But who won what? And were there any surprises? Get the details here.
Stick a fork in it, the awards season of 2024 is done. The pinnacle of the season, The Academy Awards have been handed out overnight. After all the nominations, there were very few surprises. For a show that is supposed to honour the best of the best, it was a rather tame, middling affair that had a few highlights along the way. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito ‘verbally’ abusing Michael Keaton for what he did to them as Batman, which Keaton played along with brilliantly. John Cena coming onto the stage ‘Nude’ to present the award for Best Costume Design. And of course, Ryan Gosling performing ‘I’m Just Ken’ with many other Ken’s alongside the legendary musician Slash.

It wasn’t plain sailing though. Host Jimmy Kimmel getting a few groans with his attempts at roasting Robert Downey Jr for his much-reported drug days from the past. And a joke about a square penis fell completely flat. He managed to offend actress Emma Stone about her movie, Poor Things with an off-colour remark. While the legendary Al Pacino gave a stumbling performance when he announced the winner of Best Picture. Completely bypassing the traditional reading of the nominee’s names. And the format of bringing five previous winners onto the stage to read pre-written praise to the nominees dragged the event down.
