Agatha All Along is the latest Marvel series. It’s a spin-off of the acclaimed WandaVision and marks the return of Kathryn Hahn as the witch Agatha. The two-episode series premiere is now streaming on Disney Plus. Episodes are released weekly every Thursday in the UK at 2 a.m. and on Wednesdays in the US at 6 p.m. PT.
DOWN THE WITCHES’ ROAD

WandaVision was the first Marvel series on Disney Plus and a huge hit, which resulted in the announcement of this spin-off. Even though some fans may have wondered why we need this series, the first four episodes prove them wrong. If there’s one character who truly deserves a spin-off, it’s Agatha Harkness. A series about witches, who wouldn’t want that? What we have here is the real deal! The Marvel Universe is so big, but witchcraft doesn’t have much focus apart from the two projects. Agatha All Along fully dives into the world of witches, and it’s incredibly exciting. It opens new doors for the future of Marvel. It’s also the perfect series for Halloween! Indeed, it has a strong horror vibe with several spooky moments.
This series is the spiritual sequel to WandaVision we’ve all been waiting for while also picking up the pieces from Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. It ties everything together and expands on the story by bringing several new characters. Although this series is very much about Agatha, it’s also about Teen (Joe Locke) and the witches who travel with her. We get to know each of these characters. They face their struggles and have their own storyline.
HORROR VIBES
Moreover, Agatha All Along is different from the other Marvel series. This one feels like a TV series. It doesn’t try to follow the usual Marvel formula. Instead, this series does its own thing. It’s not afraid to go crazy. After all, it’s a series about witches; we need crazy and wicked. This is exactly what we get! But it’s also surprisingly funny. The humor here feels like a natural part of the story. Undoubtedly, it’s a Marvel experiment that works.

THE ANSWER TO SUPERHERO FATIGUE
A series like Agatha All Along is the answer to superhero fatigue. We need more projects that do things differently and, more importantly, that spotlight characters we wouldn’t generally see at the center of the story in superhero films and series. Here, the main characters are all misfits; they are far from perfect. Flawed characters are always more interesting to explore.
On top of that, I always say diversity matters. When you have characters you can identify with in some ways, it touches a bigger audience. And Marvel has given us its gayest project yet. In recent years, they have made efforts to promote LGBT representation by giving us Phastos in Eternals. Agatha All Along continues that and gives us gay and lesbian characters central to the story. These characters are open about who they are and who they are attracted to. It’s not like in Loki, where you have a little line of dialogue in a blink-and-miss moment. There are actual sexual tensions between some characters. This series delivers on every level.
CAST

Undoubtedly, Kathryn Hahn was one of the many highlights of WandaVision. She became a fan favorite, so seeing her back in Marvel is an absolute joy! She was born for this role. Indeed, she brings the right amount of wickedness. She can sometimes be serious and thoughtful while delivering the perfect line in the next scene. She balances all the aspects of her character so well. And she is better than ever as Agatha Harkness.
But she is not the only witch in town. This series has a fantastic cast of new witches. The two standouts among them are Aubrey Plaza and Joe Locke. Aubrey is having the time of her life in this series. She is wickedly fun. Joe Locke is in his element. He is perfect as this fanboy-esque character.
VISUALS AND SOUNDTRACK

We all remember the song ‘Agatha All Along’ from WandaVision. If you have watched the series, this song was likely stuck in your head for weeks. It’s iconic. It makes sense that the duo Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez behind this song and the other songs from WandaVision are back. This time, they’re giving us ‘The Ballad of the Witches’ Road.’ It’s another memorable song that I have no doubt will be stuck in everyone’s head for weeks to come. The chorus is easy to remember, and the melody is catchy. There are two versions of this song; both are just as good. Moreover, ‘The Ballad of the Witches’ Road’ is a song that is essential to the story. Thus, it’s more than recreating what they did with WandaVision, this time they’re going further.

Christophe Beck also returns as the composer for this series with the help of Michael Paraskevas. It’s a great score that helps set the mood for the spooky moments. More importantly, it doesn’t feel like a superhero music score but more like a horror/fantasy score, which is the right fit for this series. Agatha All Along visually stuns by depicting the Witches’ Road. It truly feels like something could happen at any time. It’s a frightening place. Visuals and soundtrack work in harmony to bring scares and create a tense atmosphere.
VERDICT
Agatha All Along is crazy, wicked, and surprisingly fun with a strong horror vibe. It’s a Marvel experiment that is different from what we’ve seen before while also being the spiritual sequel to WandaVision we’ve all been waiting for! It can break away from the usual formula and do its own thing. Fans of the comics will be happy it takes inspiration from the 2016 Scarlet Witch comics run. This series is also the gayest Marvel project; it does justice to its LGBT characters. Kathryn Hahn is better than ever as Agatha Harkness and Joe Locke is a scene-stealer.

The 2-episode series premiere of Agatha All Along is now streaming on Disney Plus.
