Arcane League of Legends makes a triumphant return. It’s a profoundly moving and explosive final season with many exciting surprises and revelations. Arcane continues to impress and shatter expectations with a spellbinding story and multi-layered characters. It’s also a real feast for the eyes.

The hit Netflix series Arcane is back for a second and final season. The first act is now streaming on Netflix. Act II will be released on November 16, and Act III will be released on November 23.

A SPELLBINDING STORY

Season 1 ended on a massive cliffhanger in 2021. The wait is finally over. We had to wait three years to know what happened, but season 2 picks up exactly where we left off. Like season 1, it follows the same structure—three arcs of three episodes each. Each arc ends with a bang, which leads to a time jump. This series is never afraid to shock its audience and challenge its characters.

Season 2 explores the inner conflicts between Piltover and Zaun after Jinx’s attack at the end of Season 1. It’s a dark and spellbinding story. There is something for everyone here. These are action-packed episodes with inventive and intense fight scenes. But they are also deeply moving as characters face loss and personal struggles.

In addition, there’s a riveting political plot in the middle of all that. This season has many exciting surprises and revelations. Arcane is a multi-layered story, like its characters. It’s not just one thing or the other; it’s many things. That’s the beauty of this story. There is so much happening. It knows how to balance drama, action, and worldbuilding perfectly.

COMPELLING CHARACTERS

Since it’s an ensemble cast, there are a lot of characters to follow, but it never feels like one is left behind. Each character has a compelling journey. Again, Vi, Jinx, and Caitlyn highlight this group of characters. Season 2 doesn’t go easy on them. Drastic changes come for these characters as they each face their biggest challenges. There’s something so mesmerizing about two siblings who are on opposite sides. Complex families always make for great stories. With these characters, the series explores many universal themes, allowing the audience to identify with them in one way or another.

Moreover, Arcane continues to impress with its LGBT representation. Having lead characters being queer and this part of themselves being a part of the story is so rare to see in Western animation. So, it’s always something to celebrate when it happens, especially in a series like this one. There is absolutely no doubt that Arcane will be remembered as one of the very best animated series of all time. It delivers in every way.

VISUALS

The French company Fortiche Production is back for season 2, and the animation is better than ever. It’s just mind-blowing to see these visuals mixing 2D and 3D animation. Undoubtedly, Arcane continues to be the best-animated production on Netflix. There is nothing that comes close to this. The scenery, the details, the character designs, everything leaves you in awe. There might be only nine episodes per season, but it’s understandable, considering the amount of work put into animating all of this.

In addition, Fortiche Production keeps pushing the boundaries of what it can do. It knows how to stay creative. Indeed, there are several extremely cool montage sequences. These sequences use different animation styles and play with colors. There is one in particular that has stricken me. It is a sequence where everything is in black and white; it’s a bit washed up, similar to concept arts/sketches, except for three characters and a few elements that remain in color and their traditional animation style. Fortiche Production has a sense of beautiful aesthetics.

SOUNDTRACK & OPENING CREDITS

Furthermore, season 2 features an opening credit, too. Series with opening credits are always the superior ones. Like season 1, it uses the song ‘My Enemy’ by Imagine Dragons. This song perfectly embodies this series. So, while I would have loved to see a new song for this season’s opening credits, I’m also glad they used this one again. The opening credits itself is different. This one still showcases the main characters while being more simple and raw.

Season 2 has a beautiful score and features many great artists like Ashnikko, Stray Kids, and Woodkid. Each artist and song feels the right one for the scene in which they are used. Two songs stand out even more so than the others. Firstly, Isha’s Song by Eason Chan. It is such a beautiful song that is used for a critical moment. The combination of the animation and this song is genuinely brilliant. It uses slow motion at the right time and without excess, this helps building up the emotional impact of this moment. Secondly, I like To Ashes and Blood by Woodkid. This song is used for a sequence that switches between two of the most epic duels and a big reveal scene. This is an iconic moment.

VERDICT

Arcane League of Legends makes a triumphant return. It’s a profoundly moving and explosive final season with many exciting surprises and revelations. The animation is mind-blowing, constantly pushing the boundaries of what can be done. Undoubtedly, this will be remembered as one of the very best animated series of all time.
