South Park Season 27:E1 (Sermon on the Mount) Review

South Park has been infamous for showing realistic and/or detailed images of erogenous body parts, but an AI Trump looking down at his micro-penis in the desert takes the cake.

South Park is finally back, and let’s hope it doesn’t get sued! After two years of intense anticipation and suspense, the series has finally returned for Season 27, and it could not have delivered a bigger zinger to the current administration!

Season 27 was initially delayed because creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone wanted to wait until the conclusion of the 2024 Presidential election. The fact that these two “demons” of comedy wished to hold back speaks volumes to the current situation we are in. But now that our dreams of a Harris presidency have been shattered, the kid gloves are off, and Parker and Stone have ripped Trump a new a-hole, bigger and more inconceivable than a black hole!

CONTROVERSY

The episode begins with Cartman waking up and asking his Alexa to play his favorite show, NPR. Cartman likes NPR because he thinks it’s hilarious. He likes to listen to Jews and lesbians complain about the lack of wokeness, and in typical twisted South Park fashion, he loves to hear these horrible stories happening around the world, as they bring him dark amusement. Yet, when Alexa comes on, all he hears is static! Where is NPR?

Cartman’s mother informs him that NPR is no more. The president has canceled it. Cartman is furious, and when he gets to school, things are no better. PC Principal, the ultra-woke and ultra-aggressive leader of South Park Elementary, holds an emergency meeting in the school auditorium and angrily denounces the state of the country. Unsure of his next move, he decides to welcome the Lord Jesus Christ into his heart and school.

SATIRE

This had me hysterically laughing. South Park utilized its best strength, an unexpected satire mockery of its world, doing the opposite of what would be expected. PC Principal changes his name to “Power Christian Principal” and welcomes Jesus Christ (the person) into the school! We haven’t really seen Jesus in the flesh in South Park in quite some time and it is a fun and hilarious throwback.

Randy Marsh hears from Stan, his son (and arguably the main character of the show), that Jesus is being forced into his school. Randy is furious and doesn’t think Jesus should be allowed in schools. Isn’t that illegal? He asks his chatbot before he goes to bed. The chatbot is humorously confused by the fact that Jesus is physically present in the school, and she assumes Randy means religion as a whole.

CHATBOT

The chatbot features a female voice function, which allows it to poke fun at two things Americans are currently experiencing. The Trump administration is pushing over-religious Christian values on our children and America’s newfound overreliance on artificial intelligence for guidance and information. Randy thanks the bot for always being able to confide in her and wishes his babe goodnight, while his wife angrily and silently folds her arms across her chest, sitting right next to him in bed, but having had no part in this vital conversation. I love this delicious take on how crummy Randy and Sharon’s relationship still is. It is an ominous prediction of how people are withdrawing from human interaction with their fellow humans in favor of technology.

The town of South Park is becoming increasingly upset with the president. He’s interfering in their lives! All the racists are mad that he’s being too Christian and racist, poking fun at even the far right, getting angry with Trump. Yet, the citizens still think Mr. Garrison is to blame, as he was the “stand-in” representation of President Trump on the show for the last few years (with orange skin and hair), and he was also recently re-elected. Randy and the rest of the town then literally kick Garrison’s door down to confront him. But they discover Mr. Garrison has no idea what is going on. He isn’t the president anymore. He’s back to being his usual self, and he’s just watching White Lotus with his partner, Rick.

THE H-BOMB

Then South Park drops the H-bomb. They have entirely abandoned the stand-in and have gone right for the jugular, presenting President Trump as the president of the United States, in all his glory. Much like their depiction of Saddam Hussein before him, the animation of Trump’s head is photorealistic and switches from his many mocked physical facial expressions, complete with a mouth that opens up like a puppet. He even has the same voice they used for Saddam ALMOST 20 YEARS ago. They reveal he is also in a sexual relationship with Satan himself (just like they depicted Saddam doing). Satan is once again less than enthusiastic about the state of the relationship, the physical size of Trump’s “asset,” and the overall moral efficacy of his partner.

I honestly could not believe they went this far. I shudder to think what the administration will make of this mockery. They haven’t gone this hard since Kanye or Isaac Hayes. While those were cleverly packaged and perfect, this one reveals how angry and desperate Parker, Stone, and Others have become in their desire to hit out at Trump. They make so many illusions to the less than adequate size of his manhood, and the cartoonish nonsense that Trump spews is a little, well….over well-done.

TRUMP’S TACKLE

I do love how he constantly is suing everyone who critiques him. I love how 60 Minutes is depicted as a ticking time bomb with its logo, with the presenters trying super-hard to make it clear that they are just reporting the news and disagree with the worldwide critique of Trump. This is enjoyable, but after years of watching Stephen Colbert make joke after joke on Trump’s every move, I feel like it is a losing battle, and won’t change anything. Trump will never go away.

The B-story is very truncated, but I laughed out loud when Cartman expressed his depression that woke is “dead” and plans to kill himself on Tuesday if it doesn’t come back. Himself….and of course Butters too, though Butters has no say in it!

South Park has not lost its edge and is still as funny as ever. Clever, twisted, satirical, sarcastic, and brutal. The final scene of a (slightly more) overweight AI-generated Trump trudging through the desert and suffering for our sins made my mouth open wide in shock, though. How the heck are they going to get away with this? They are poking fun at everybody being scared of being cancelled or dismantled for attacking Trump, but they very well may be doing that to themselves.

VERDICT

South Park has been infamous for showing realistic and/or detailed images of erogenous body parts. But an AI Trump looking down at his micro-penis in the desert takes the cake. I honestly don’t know what will happen next. Paramount has already renewed this show for 50 more episodes, but if Trump sees this, this could very well be the last season. Just ask The Late Show with Stephen Colbert what happens to people who don’t back down on ripping on this buffoon.

This episode was gold, but Trump could turn it to bronze.

South Park Season 27 is now streaming on Paramount+.
