Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg, and Josh Heald are in talks to produce a new Knight Rider movie for Universal.
It appears Michael Knight and KITT might be about to make a dramatic return to the big screen. That’s right, Knight Rider, the beloved 80s TV series that made David Hasselhoff a household name, is getting the big screen treatment from Universal Pictures. Although the studio has tried and failed many times to bring the series to the big screen for a new generation, its latest attempt is gaining traction. After giving the Karate Kid franchise a new lease of life with Cobra Kai, Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg, and Josh Heald are in early talks to helm the film.
According to reports, the trio is in early talks to write the screenplay. Both Hurwitz and Schlossberg are in early talks to direct. The film is one of many first-look projects the studios have in place with the trio. After all, they have worked wonders with Cobra Kai. Gary Barber and Chris Stone are producing through Spyglass.

MICHAEL KNIGHT RIDES AGAIN!
Created by Glen A. Larson, Knight Rider became a global phenomenon back in the 80s. The original series featured a futuristic talking smart car named KITT and its human counterpart, a former police officer turned crime-fighter named Michael Knight (David Hasselhoff). KITT, a beautifully sleek 1984 black Pontiac Trans Am boasted the vocal brilliance of William Daniels who would talk to Michael via his two-way radio wristwatch.
It made The Hoff an overnight star and propelled KITT, the legendary Pontiac Firebird Trans Am, into the upper echelons of pop culture icons. The effects of the series are still being felt in pop culture today, with Rocket League and Fortnite recently making KITT available as a purchasable cosmetic, complete with sound effects.

SERIES SYNOPSIS
Michael Long, an undercover police officer, is shot while investigating a case and left for dead by his assailants. He is rescued by Wilton Knight, a wealthy, dying millionaire and inventor who arranges life-saving surgery, including a new face and a new identity–that of Michael Knight. Michael is then given a special computerized and indestructible car called the Knight Industries Two Thousand (nicknamed KITT), and a mission: apprehend criminals who are beyond the reach of the law. The series depicts Michael’s exploits as he and KITT battle the forces of evil on behalf of the Foundation for Law and Government.
RELEASE
This is a masterstroke from Universal. Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg, and Josh Heald have played a crucial role in the success of Cobra Kai. By revitalizing a classic franchise with a fresh, inventive storyline and introducing new characters, they created a formula that resonated with both longtime fans and new viewers alike. This recipe for success saw the series become one of Netflix’s biggest draws and went on to become a six-season success story. After the series came to a close, the trio has been searching for their next project, and now it seems like they have set their sights on Knight Rider.
It remains to be seen whether David Hasselhoff will have a role in the newly revamped Knight Rider movie. However, given the approach of the trio to Cobra Kai, I wouldn’t bet against the Hoff making an appearance. Either way, I’ll be here for the film 100%.
