It’s alive! Netflix has shared a treasure trove of new character posters for Guillermo del Toro’s highly anticipated adaptation of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. The long-gestating passion project has been in development for some time now, but at long last, fans of the visionary director can lock in a release date. This week, the film made its debut at the BFI London Film Festival and has quickly become the talk of the critics, which is a testament to del Toro’s commitment to the project.
Frankenstein has always been a source of inspiration for de Toro and has always influenced the tone of his filmography. But finally, his vision of the story is being resurrected from the recesses of his mind and brought to life on film. And now, the streamer has pulled back the curtain and delivered a fresh collection of new character posters. So, throw the switch, bring the monster to life, and take a look at the posters below.

REACTION
Fortunately, our team caught the film at the BFI London Film Festival earlier this week, and we had a blast. In his reactions, Carl Roberts said: “Del Toro’s Frankenstein is a masterpiece of filmmaking. From start to finish, this astonishing version of the story is perfection. An outstanding cast makes the film a cinematic gem, but it’s Jacob Elordi who steals the movie. Cannot praise it highly enough”
And finally, I said: “Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein is a monstrous triumph. The director’s signature style and unique vision have crafted a truly exceptional adaptation of Mary Shelley’s tale. With its incredible heart, stunning soundtrack, and breathtaking cinematography, it’s a rare gem.”

SYNOPSIS
Oscar-winning director Guillermo del Toro adapts Mary Shelley’s classic tale of Victor Frankenstein, a brilliant but egotistical scientist who brings a creature to life in a monstrous experiment that ultimately leads to the undoing of both the creator and his tragic creation.
DEL TORO’S VISION
Del Toro described his interpretation of the classic Mary Shelley story as “an incredibly emotional movie.” While at Cannes, he expressed this (with thanks to Variety for the transcription).
“Somebody asked me the other day, does (this Frankenstein) have really scary scenes? For the first time, I considered that. It’s an emotional story for me. It’s as personal as anything. I’m asking a question about being a father, being a son… I’m not doing a horror movie — ever. I’m not trying to do that.”

THE CAST
To help bring this film to life, de Toro has turned to Oscar Isaac to bring his vision of Victor Frankenstein to the screen. Additionally, the impressive ensemble cast features Jacob Elordi, Mia Goth, Christoph Waltz, Felix Kammerer, Lars Mikkelsen, David Bradley, Burn Gorman, and Christian Convery.
RELEASE
Guillermo del Toro is a masterful visual storyteller, and the prospect of him reviving his version of Frankenstein is very exciting. Initially, the film was set to be released under Universal’s banner, but for various reasons, the project fell apart. It even reached the pre-production phase, with a monster bust inspired by Bernie Wrightson’s artwork for an illustrated adaptation of Mary Shelley’s novel. Unfortunately, the project was ultimately shelved for over a decade. However, thanks to Netflix, del Toro’s vision is finally coming to fruition, and we couldn’t be more on board.
Frankenstein comes to life in selected theatres on October 17th and on Netflix in November. What do you think of the new character posters? Drop a comment below and join the conversation.
