A New Trailer for Mortal Kombat II Unleashes Johnny Cage!

Raiden is vanquished in the action-packed new trailer for Mortal Kombat II. Get your first look here.

Are you ready for round 2? After Warner Bros pushed back the release of Mortal Kombat II, details about the project have been a little thin. The first trailer was quietly good, and the character posters were epic, but the studio otherwise fell silent on Simon McQuoid’s sequel. But today, the gong called for ROUND 2 when Warner Bros dropped a stunning new trailer and equally impressive new poster for the film.

The trailer delivers everything but the kitchen sink. We’ve got Johnny Cage unleashing his incredible skillset, Kitana looking lethal with her iconic weaponry, and we even get a long-overdue “Get over here!” from Scorpion, and that’s just for starters! We see Raiden all but vanquished, and some of the franchise’s biggest characters are unleashed. But before we finish him! Check out the trailer below.

SYNOPSIS

From New Line Cinema comes the latest high-stakes installment in the blockbuster video game franchise in all its brutal glory, Mortal Kombat II. This time, the fan favorite champions—now joined by Johnny Cage himself—are pitted against one another in the ultimate, no-holds barred, gory battle to defeat the dark rule of Shao Kahn that threatens the very existence of the Earthrealm and its defenders.

THE CAST & CREW

Karl Urban stars as Johnny Cage, alongside Adeline Rudolph, Jessica McNamee, Josh Lawson, Ludi Lin, Mehcad Brooks, Tati Gabrielle, Lewis Tan, Damon Herriman, with Chin Han, Tadanobu Asano as Lord Raiden, Joe Taslim as Bi-Han, and Hiroyuki Sanada as Hanzo Hasashi and Scorpion.

Director Simon McQuoid returns to helm the follow up to his explosive 2021 cinematic adventure, from a screenplay by Jeremy Slater, based on the videogame created by Ed Boon and John Tobias. The film is produced by Todd Garner, James Wan, Toby Emmerich, E. Bennett Walsh and McQuoid, and executive produced by Michael Clear, Judson Scott, Slater and Lawrence Kasanoff.

Joining McQuoid behind the camera are director of photography Stephen F. Windon, production designer Yohei Taneda, editor Stuart Levy and costume designer Cappi Ireland, with casting by Rich Delia and music by Benjamin Wallfisch.

NEW POSTER

As promised, the studio also released a brand new poster to accompany the trailer. Fans of the classic floating montage formula will be eating well here, as the glossy one-sheet features every character from the sequel. Albeit presented in various action poses against the dark backdrop. Check it out below.

RELEASE

What a phenomenal new trailer. Although the first installment in the series was enjoyable, it failed to truly stick the landing due to its lack of authentic characters. Thankfully, the studio is rectifying that with the sequel, and it is brimming with characters as a result. Karl Urban looks made for this franchise, and it’s great to see him thrust front and center in the sequel. But can Mortal Kombat II truly deliver a flawless victory at the box office?

With Simon McQuoid returning as director and composer Benjamin Wallfisch back for the soundtrack, this film has all the signs of being an instant hit, and we cannot wait!

Mortal Kombat II will be released in the UK on May 8, 2026, by Warner Bros. Pictures.
