Welcome to The Official UK Box Top Ten.
This weekend at the UK box office, Star Wars was dethroned by the new kid on the block, becoming the youngest director to top the UK weekly box office. A surprising three films saw growth at the box office, not something often seen. Escape the backrooms while jamming out to your favorite Michael Jackson song with this weekend’s top ten.
(1) Backrooms
Backrooms has become quite the box-office phenomenon, achieving the best opening for studio A24 with £4,281,936. This also makes 20-year-old Kane Parsons the youngest director to top the UK’s weekend box office, a feat he’s replicated in the USA. He’s managed to turn his YouTube series into a hit film, continuing a string of successes for creators on the platform at the box office.
(2) Star Wars: The Mandalorian And Grogu
Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu have been unable to keep the top spot at the UK box office for more than a single week, which is quite unfortunate. Bringing in £2,660,970 in its second weekend of release, the film only suffered a 50% drop, which isn’t too bad. The issue for The Mandalorian and Grogu is that it started from a low opening, and it’s about to face even more fierce competition from upcoming blockbusters.

(3) Michael
Dropping only a single percentage point in its sixth weekend of release, Michael continues to hold a strong grip on the UK box office with a weekend total of £1,763,682. Its overall total rose to £48,019,081, rapidly closing in on £50 million.
(4) Obsession
The other buzzy film from YouTuber-turned-director Curry Barker, Obsession, increased its business by 21% in its third weekend, pulling in another £1,565,342, its highest weekend total to date. Audiences are obsessed with Barker’s work, and it’s still pulling in a pretty penny. The film is still increasing its cinema count, now 545, up from 506. While this accounts for some of its increase in business, its site average is increasing, up to £2,872 in weekend three from £2,539 in weekend two, showing that its audience is expanding.
(5) The Devil Wears Prada 2Â
Dropping 24% from its previous weekend total, The Devil Wears Prada 2 managed to pull in £875,713 in its fifth weekend. Its total sits at £32,144,914, making it seem like a stretch to reach £35 million, let alone £40 million.

(6) The Sheep Detectives
Maintaining its number six spot from last weekend, The Sheep Detectives pulled in a total of £711,255, meaning it grew by 32%! While Sony still likely won’t be happy with the film’s performance, it is closing in on £10 million, with its overall total at £8,305,170. Providing nothing gets in the film’s way, it should make it.
(7) Tuner
Opening at number seven, Tuner brought in £361,457 for distributor Black Bear. The film follows Niki, a gifted piano tuner with extreme sensitivity to sound, who discovers his hyper-tuned ears allow him to crack safes, drawing him into a dangerous criminal underworld.
(8) The Super Mario Galaxy Movie
Moving up one spot from last weekend, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie becomes the third film in the box office top ten to improve its business, growing its total 81% to £221,621 in its ninth weekend of release. Its overall total is £38,052,187, though it seems like it’s going to fall just short of £40 million.

(9) Power Ballad
Paul Rudd’s latest movie, Power Ballad, opens at number nine to a disappointing £203,650 for the Hollywood star. The film follows Rick (Rudd), a washed-up wedding singer in Ireland, who befriends fading boy-band star Danny (Jonas). When Danny steals Rick’s unfinished song and turns it into a global hit, Rick embarks on a quest to reclaim his rightful credit.
(10) Passenger
Hanging in the top ten for a final weekend, Passenger pulls in an additional £148,158 for a 56% drop in its second weekend. The film sadly hasn’t benefited from the current horror movie craze, lacking anything that draws audiences to see it.

Next weekend sees the opening of both Masters Of The Universe and Scary Movie.
