The all-new Green Lantern HBO Max series will feature THREE Green Lanterns from three different eras!
Has there ever been a better time to be a DC fan? In the past few years, we have been blessed with some of the finest movies in DC history. Wonder Woman was fantastic, Aquaman was just phenomenal and Joker went above and beyond to drag us down the Gotham rabbit hole for an unnerving exploration into the mind of Gotham’s Clown Prince of Crime. And all that before we turn our attention to this year’s slate which includes two highly anticipated entries in Birds Of Prey and Wonder Woman 1984.
Thankfully, this success isn’t restricted to just the tentpole movies emerging from beneath the Warner Bros. umbrella. The CW and its glorious slate of DC Arrowverse shows have continued to thrive since the launch of Arrow back in 2012 and has since seen the rise of Supergirl, The Flash, Batwoman, Black Lightning and Legends of Tomorrow. And with two stellar seasons under its belt, Titans has found its niche with its dark, gritty and often gratuitously violent take on the source material.
However, despite these glorious successes, one legendary DC character has been omitted from the Justice League for far too long. Green Lantern. Subsequent to the release of the now derided big-screen incarnation starring Ryan Reynolds, the character has been in stuck in developmental hell. His big-screen reboot has been shelved several times, only to be dusted off every now and then and thrown into the DC reshuffle following the failure of 2017’s Justice League.
But finally, there is some great news on the horizon. Last October we brought you the news that Greg Berlanti, the creative mind behind the Arrowverse had been tasked with bringing an all-new Green Lantern series to the Warner Bros HBO Max streaming platform, and today, we can bring you some new details which are sure to delight every Lantern Corps fan!
Speaking at the Television Critics Association press tour, HBO Max Head of Original Content Sarah Aubrey indicated the show will be the biggest DC series ever attempted, “It’s going to span several decades and on focus on two stories about Green Lanterns on Earth. There will also be a focus on a third Green Lantern in space “going into the Sinestro story.”
You heard right. There will be THREE Green Lanterns from THREE different eras … IN ONE SHOW! Holy crap! Plus, if that wasn’t enough … the backstory of Sinestro will be explored in greater detail too, which is something the fans have been calling for since the derided big-screen outing barely touched upon his storyline. Mark Strong’s fine performance was one of the few diamonds in what was a patch of REALLY rough road in the movie, so the notion of exploring Sinestro’s backstory in an entire series will reverberate around the fanbase like a power ring on overload!
Sadly, we are no nearer to learning an official release date, but this is going to be something truly incredible. After what has been an arduous wait for more Green Lantern content it would seem we are about to be spoilt rotten by HBO Max.
Bravo Warner Bros.
