“This episode of The Book Of Boba Fett proves that Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni are a team more powerful than any Jedi Master”

The Book of Boba Fett is the opposite of Pandora’s box. When you open it up, everything good streams out. The penultimate episode delivered in a way that makes Star Wars superfans delirious with glee and unable to process anything beyond the screen. For a show that is called The Book of Boba Fett, these last 2 episodes have almost no screentime for Fett.  And the eve of the season (series?) finale doesn’t even have a speaking part for Fett.

GROGU

The episode focuses again on the beloved character from The Mandalorian, the adorable Yoda’s species little Force-user, Grogu. Grogu is training on a verdant forest world, with…..Luke Skywalker. And Ahsoka is there as well. It’s essentially a nerdgasm for me, as I always dreamed of what it would be like to have Ahsoka and Luke interact. Ahsoka refers to herself as a friend of the family and compares Luke to his father. I got chills as it is clear, Luke knows that Ahsoka was his father’s former pupil.

JEDI TRAINING

Now he is training Grogu, in reverse of when Yoda trained him. It’s just so poetic and magical to see Luke carry Grogu on his back in a backpack as he did with Yoda. Only now the master is carrying the student. Luke even tells him to “Do” and not try and it shows he truly absorbed Yoda’s message. There is so much to unpack in this episode, that I almost find myself at a loss of words because I possibly couldn’t cover everything in one review.

PYKE WARS

The stage is being set for a big crime war between Fett’s “empire” and the Pyke Syndicate; who have basically started their spice-running business on Tatooine. The Marshal returns and the Mandalorian tries to recruit him and the citizens of Mos Pelgo to help fight the Pykes. Yet there is someone sinister repping the Pyke’s that even the quick-drawing Marshal can’t outgun. The Book of Boba Fett loves playing Western vibes and Tatooine really is the Wild West in space. The people even speak like cowboys, and the aesthetic is marvelous.

I love the one-eyed frogs on Luke’s training planet and love the ant droids that are building Luke’s temple. I love EVERYTHING.

ALL ROADS LEAD TO TATOOINE

While some fans may be disappointed that this episode hardly focuses on Boba, I feel that rest assured, all the pieces will fall into place for the final episode. Two things, someone who is OC like I noticed was that Luke presents Yoda’s old lightsaber to Grogu and asks him to pick between the mini armor forged for him by the Mandalorian. OR the lightsaber. Basically saying “you need to choose who you will journey with to meet your destiny.”

While this is epic and amazing, the canon comics showed that Mas Amedda took Yoda’s lightsaber (after his draw duel between him and the Emperor) and melted it down in a furnace. Jon Favreau loves to take little liberties in canon, and I don’t see how this can’t be retconned. It’s just a big difference. How did Luke get this lightsaber and repair it? Was the one destroyed a decoy? So many questions.

HIRED GUN

Also, a very familiar and deadly someone mentions to the Marshal that Boba Fett is a “cool blooded killer who worked for the Empire.” While this may be told to discourage the Marshall, it does address my only problem with this series. The canon Marvel comics indeed show that Fett can ruthless and heartless, and it seems to be a huge departure from his kind and caring demeanor throughout this series. I guess people really can change. (Cough Cough) Anakin Skywalker. Yet perhaps he has saved a little coldness for later…..?

VERDICT

Anyways, this is a Star Wars fan’s wet dream and the most excited I’ve been in a while. This episode proves that Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni are a team more powerful than any Master-Apprentices ever shown in the archives of the Jedi Order. Also, a shout-out to my colleague, the prescient Annlyel James, who made a major prediction that I could’ve never seen coming.

The Book of Boba Fett is now streaming on Disney Plus.
