Billie Eilish hits us Hard And Soft, Mortal Kombat II says get over here, while The Sheep Detectives solve a baaad crime at the cinema this week!
Get set for a musical, violent, and family weekend at the cinema this week. The top offerings hitting multiplexes are Iron Maiden: Burning Ambition, Billie Eilish: Hit Me Hard And Soft-The Tour (Live In 3D), Mortal Kombat II, and The Sheep Detectives. With four other movies opening alongside them, there’s plenty of cinematic entertainment to be had.
IRON MAIDEN: BURNING AMBITION
Universal Pictures-Released Thursday, 7th May
Synopsis: Interviews and archival footage provide insight into the five-decade journey of iconic heavy-metal band Iron Maiden.

Our editor, Phil Roberts, saw the film recently and enjoyed it, saying:
“Overall, Iron Maiden: Burning Ambition is a treasure trove of insight into the UK’s most beloved band. From its pulse-pounding musical performances to the adoring fans’ passion, the film is an invitation to embrace the band and its importance to the industry. The music is exceptional, the band’s commentary is hilarious, and its legacy is laid bare for fans to relive. This is a fan’s dream of a movie. More than a mere documentary, it is a celebration of music and a window into the mindset of the creatives behind it all.”

BILLIE EILISH: HIT ME HARD AND SOFT – THE TOUR LIVE IN 3D
Paramount Pictures-Released Friday, 8th May
Synopsis: Grammy Award-winning singer Billie Eilish performs hit songs during her sold-out world tour.
Cast: Billie Eilish
Director: James Cameron
Cert: 12A
We saw the film in 3D and had fun with it. I said in my review:
“Billie Eilish: Hit Me Hard And Soft-The Tour (Live In 3D) is a superb spectacle, brilliantly directed and staged; fans will love it. It brings us a concert experience that, while not the redefinition that it claims to be, is one that will live long in the memory. It is an experience that will send home the fans in complete rapture and non-fans home with a wide grin on their faces. Make no mistake, this is event cinema at its finest. It does what it says on the tin; it hits us hard and soft. With an explosive opening before calming down to deliver some quieter, more melancholy tunes, it builds the audience up for the second part of the concert. And this is where Billie Eilish is at her very best. She whips up the attendees into an energetic fury, delivering an electric performance.”

MORTAL KOMBAT II
Warner Bros.-Released Friday 8th May
Synopsis: Johnny Cage joins other fighters in the ultimate, no-holds-barred battle to defeat the dark rule of Shao Kahn, a powerful tyrant who threatens the very existence of the Earthrealm and its defenders.
Cast: Karl Urban
Director: Simon McQuoid
Cert: 15
Phil saw the film and had a blast, saying:
“Overall, I had a blast with Mortal Kombat II. It’s the ultimate love letter to the games I grew up with. Although the film is far from perfect, with limited character depth and occasionally ropey dialogue, it delivers more than enough to entertain the masses. While casual viewers won’t be as enamored with its brilliance as hardcore fans, the movie has enough action, spectacle, and world-building to keep every audience on the edge of their seats for two hours and change. This is escapism at its best.”

THE SHEEP DETECTIVES
Sony Pictures-Released Friday, 8th May
Synopsis: George Hardy is a shepherd who loves to read murder mysteries to his sheep, never suspecting that they can understand him. When George is found dead under mysterious circumstances, the sheep decide to solve the crime themselves, even if it means leaving their meadow for the first time and facing the fact that the human world isn’t as simple as it appears in books.
Cast: Hugh Jackman, Emma Thompson
Director: Kyle Balda
Cert: PG
Phil saw the film recently and had fun with it, saying:
“Overall, despite its generic formula, The Sheep Detectives is a blast. With another brilliant performance from Hugh Jackman, great voice performances from Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Patrick Stewart, and Chris O’Dowd, and an often dark, engaging storyline, the film excels. With its lavish, picturesque cinematography, messages of togetherness, acceptance, and family, and life lessons about life and death, the film is the perfect introduction to the genre for kids of all ages.”
