Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story 5 has soared to the top of the global box office, earning $312 million worldwide and delivering one of the year’s biggest opening weekends.
To the surprise of absolutely no one, Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story 5 has dominated the global box office in its opening weekend, proving that the beloved franchise remains one of Hollywood’s biggest draws. At a time when high-profile releases such as The Mandalorian and Grogu and Masters of the Universe have struggled to ignite the box office, Woody, Buzz, and the gang have reminded audiences why they continue to capture hearts more than 30 years after their debut.
Driven by generations of loyal fans and a new wave of moviegoers, Toy Story 5 delivered a blockbuster performance worldwide, including an impressive £15.3 million opening weekend at the UK box office. That’s 72% of all ticket sales across the three-day weekend. Beyond the UK, the film dominated the North American box office with a colossal $160 million opening weekend, helping propel the film to an outstanding $312 million worldwide. The blockbuster debut marks the biggest global opening of 2026 so far, cementing Toy Story 5 as one of the year’s biggest cinematic successes.

The toys are back in Disney and Pixar’s “Toy Story 5,” and this time it’s Toy meets Tech. Woody (voice of Tom Hanks), Buzz Lightyear (voice of Tim Allen), Jessie (voice of Joan Cusack) and the rest of the gang’s jobs are challenged when they come face-to-face with Lilypad (voice of Greta Lee), a brand-new tablet device that arrives with her own disruptive ideas about what is best for their kid, Bonnie. Will playtime ever be the same? “Toy Story 5” is directed by Academy Award® winner Andrew Stanton, co-directed by Kenna Harris, produced by Lindsey Collins, p.g.a., and written by Stanton and Harris from a story by Stanton. The film features an original score by Oscar® winner Randy Newman, who returns to score his fifth “Toy Story” feature.
REVIEW
We were fortunate enough to see Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story 5 well ahead of its theatrical release, and it proved to be a fun-filled return to the toy box. In my ★★★☆☆ review, I wrote: “Overall, Toy Story 5 is another well-executed triumph for Pixar. Although characters like Woody, Buzz, and the rest of Andy’s toys find themselves sidelined in this outing, the emotionally poignant, resonant storyline, breathtaking visuals, and emotionally charged soundtrack more than make up for any disappointment.
While long-term fans of the franchise may leave disappointed by the criminal lack of screen time dedicated to their old friends, new fans will find themselves swept away by the powerful storyline and colorful characters it introduces. The film is the perfect vehicle to bring in new fans and sell another wave of merchandise that will propagate our pop culture landscape for years to come, and that is welcome to see.” Read my full review here.

RELEASE
What a phenomenal opening weekend for the franchise. Backed by another wave of positive reviews, Disney and Pixar’s fifth adventure has reinforced the series’ reputation as one of the most critically acclaimed animated franchises ever made and one of Disney’s most valuable cinematic properties. The film’s extraordinary debut has also put its commercial power into perspective. In just one weekend, the film has already come close to matching the entire worldwide box-office haul of Hoppers.
So, could Toy Story 6 be next? It’s far too early to say, but after such a commanding box-office debut, another adventure hardly seems out of the question, and we will be first in line to see it!
To infinity and beyond!
