Idris Elba and John Cena join the returning Margot Robbie, Jai Courtney, Joel Kinnaman, and Viola Davis for James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad relaunch
After months of speculation and rumors, the full cast list for James Gunn‘s upcoming relaunch of Warner Bros. ‘ The Suicide Squad has been confirmed. With filming expected to get underway within weeks, the visionary writer/director took to social media to unveil the full cast list. He did this with the tagline “Don’t get too attached!”
Aside from the monumental casting of Idris Elba, Peter Capaldi, and Taika Waititi, the other noteworthy addition to the roster is Michael Rooker. At one point, the Guardians of the Galaxy and Walking Dead legend was rumored to be lending his vocals to the CGI monster, King Shark, but the actor swiftly shot the rumor down. He confirmed he was not part of The Suicide Squad. However, that has proven not to be the case.

A STELLAR CAST
The addition of John Cena will undoubtedly raise a few eyebrows. The WWE superstar hasn’t exactly set the world ablaze with his acting prowess thus far. Moreover, his recent involvement in the Transformers spin-off Bumblebee didn’t exactly improve his standing. Whether he has the acting chops to pull off a role in the DC Universe remains to be seen. But if Dave Bautista can do it, surely Cena can too.

The new additions to the roster will be joining the returning Margot Robbie, Jai Courtney, Joel Kinnaman, and Viola Davis, who will be reprising their roles as Harley Quinn, Captain Boomerang, Rick Flagg, and Amanda Waller, respectively. But as Gunn stated on his timeline … maybe we shouldn’t get too attached!
The Suicide Squad is expected to hit cinema screens on August 6th, 2021
