Colin and Casey Jost tasked with bringing an all-new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie to the big screen
Get ready to shout cowabunga with a slice in hand because Paramount is bringing back the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. AGAIN. After rebooting the franchise back in 2014 with TMNT, Paramount had hoped to put together a string of solid hit movies. However, with the first film being sprinkled with Michael Bay’s typical touch, the movie was average at best. The sequel TMNT: Out OF The Shadows fared even worse, despite reverting to the series’ animated routes. But when all was said and done, the franchise failed to reach the benchmark set by the original movie from 1990.
TMNT RISES AGAIN!
Enter Casey and Colin Jost (Saturday Night Live). The duo has been tasked with bringing a new adventure with those heroes in a half shell to the big screen. Sadly, little is known about the plot of the new movie, nor do we know whether it will be a straight sequel to Out Of The Shadows. Or whether the studio will opt for another reboot of the property. However, Michael Bay, Andrew Form, Brad Fuller, Scott Mednick, and Galen Walker have all returned as producers; which will either fill your heart with joy…or dread!
ANIMATED MOVIE
But, what we do know is this live-action extravaganza will be a separate entity from the animated feature being developed by Seth Rogen for Nickelodeon. That project will be directed by Jeff Rowe and is expected to release on August 11, 2023. Rogen recently confirmed that the movie will harness the teenage aspects of movies like ‘Blockers,’ ‘Good Boys,’ and ‘Superbad.’ The hope is those elements mixed with an action-packed storyline will deliver a solid entry into the franchise. But TMNT fans will remain skeptical until we get to see the results for ourselves.
For me, Paramount is looking in all the wrong places and hiring all the wrong people. Seth Rogen is a wonderful visionary and an equally talented writer. But whether his artistic style translates to TMNT remains to be seen. And the less we say about Michael Bay the better.
What do you guys think? Are you down with another live-action Teenage Mutant Nina Turtles movie? Is Seth Rogen the right man to tackle the TMNT animated flick? Leave a comment below. I’d love to hear what you guys think.
