The New Era Of The X-Men Has Begun!

Steve eagerly delves into the pages of the freshly released inaugural issue of X-Men, immersing himself in a thrilling encounter with Cyclops, Juggernaut, and Wolverine.

X-Men #1 has been released, ushering in the ‘From the Ashes’ era of Marvel’s mutants.

In this issue, which takes place a little under a year after the fall of Krakoa, we find that the team has lost its paradise and is, once again, hated by society. This is a status X-Men fans should all be familiar with. The team has relocated to Alaska, residing in a former sentinel building factory.

The team is in a rebuilding phase of sorts. Hank Mccoy (Beast) spends most of the issue trying to convince the local police chief that the town has nothing to fear from the mutants. While he does that, Scott Summers (Cyclops) leads the team of Majik, Juggernaut (yes, THAT Juggernaut), Psylocke, and the lesser-known Temper on a rescue mission. They are searching for a very well-known mutant named Wolverine.

X MARKS THE SPOT!

This new title is written by Jed MacKay and drawn by Ryan Stegman. Overall, the writing is done well, and the issue’s pacing is good. Marte Gracia’s vibrant color pairs very well with Stegman’s brilliant artwork. This comic seems to be targeted at new X-Men fans, but I’m not entirely convinced. Based on this issue alone, I would say not exactly. While I don’t think MacKay does much to try and introduce new readers to the character, it is a solid relaunch of the series. It serves and can serve to ease new readers into the team slowly.

VERDICT

Overall, I am excited about the X-Men’s new era and look forward to seeing this team (and the other teams) develop. If you are not a massive fan of the Krakoan era, I urge you to try these new titles.
