Hot Toys Review | Grand Admiral Thrawn (Star Wars: Ahsoka)

Delve into the world of Hot Toys with the Grand Admiral Thrawn figure from the Ahsoka series. Read our review to learn more about this highly detailed collectible and its display base.

The first Hot Toys figure from the Ahsoka series is finally here, and it’s an early release! At long last, Grand Admiral Thrawn has returned and is back with a vengeance. But can this impressive Hot Toys figure truly capture the essence of the character? Let’s delve into the figure in our review.

THE BOX AND ACCESSORIES

The box is typical for Star Wars collectibles—it’s black with a promotional picture of the figure and the Star Wars logo. The colored strip for the figures from the Ahsoka series is blue, which makes sense since that color was predominant in the marketing.

In terms of accessories, you get some cool stuff with this one. The display base is the usual Star Wars interior base. This one is painted in black. It’s a simple base that works every time. Then, he comes with seven hands – two gesture hands, two hands to hold the datapad, two open hands, and one hand to hold the blaster pistol. Thrawn’s blaster is an RK-3 blaster. It’s the first time we get this weapon from Hot Toys. It’s nicely sculpted with black and shiny silver paint at the tip.

Moreover, he has a datapad. It’s not the same one that was shown in the promotional pictures. This one is accurate to the datapad Thrawn uses in the series. They cared about writing everything in Aurebesh there. I don’t have enough time to translate what’s written, but as I always say, it’s all about the details with Hot Toys.

HOLOGRAM MAGIC

Finally, he has a giant hologram with a stand. The first part of this hologram is a piece of sculpted plastic representing Thrawn’s Star Destroyer, the Eye of Sion, and the fortress on Peridea. It’s a pretty cool hologram. The second piece of this hologram is a thin piece of plastic shaped like a disc. You’re supposed to stick the two together with the tape included in the first part. This means that if you stick them together, you’ll need a rather large box to store the whole hologram unless you plan on displaying it in your collection. But it is undoubtedly odd for Hot Toys to do that. There were many ways to make it work, but this is not the way.

THE FIGURE

Hot Toys has re-used the Imperial Officer outfit they made for Grand Moff Tarkin and Director Krennic, but this time, it’s white. This is a simple outfit, so it wasn’t difficult to recreate in figure format. This is the third Imperial officer we get, and hopefully, this isn’t the last. All they have to do is make new head sculpts and change the ranking plate. Thrawn has an imposing presence, and this figure definitely has that. It’s a figure that won’t go unnoticed in any collection.

The boots are made of pleather, so you have feet articulation. But since they’re rather tight, the range of articulation is minimal. The belt also uses pleather. The blaster easily fits in the holster. As it often is with holsters, this one uses a magnet. Hot Toys made sure that the outfit wasn’t brand new. There is one scratch on the chest, and the tips of the outfit are a bit dirty. It’s a white outfit so being out there for several years, it had to be slightly damaged.

THE HEADSCULPT

The headsculpt is truly on point. It looks precisely like Lars Mikkelsen. There is no other word than perfection for this one. The facial expression, the eyes, the hair sculpture, it’s all Thrawn. Like in the series, the V mark on his forehead is visible but remains subtle. Plus, he has separate rolling eyeballs. If all the figures from the Ahsoka series are on this level, this will be the best line of figures.
