Lanterns Light The Way Again With The Release Of The New Teaser Trailer

Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre star as Hal Jordan and John Stewart in the new DC Studios series, Lanterns. The show lights the way with a new teaser trailer.

The Lanterns are coming to light the way this August. After Creature Commandos and two seasons of Peacemaker, the Green Lantern Corps is getting in on the act. The new series is set for release on HBO Max on August 16th. It is part of the DCU’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre lead the cast as Hal Jordan and John Stewart, respectively. Supporting roles are played by Kelly Macdonald, and Nathan Fillion features as Guy Gardner, reprising his role from last year’s Superman. He also appears in the second season of Peacemaker. After the release of the first teaser trailer, HBO Max has released a second one today. Again, it features Jordan and Stewart antagonizing each other. They try to prove who is the better Lantern while also featuring strong language and some violence. Check it out below.

THE PREMISE OF THE SERIES

Green Lanterns are intergalactic peacekeepers who wear rings that give them extraordinary powers. The series follows experienced Lantern Hal Jordan and new recruit John Stewart as they investigate a murder in Nebraska. This leads them to darker mysteries and reckonings.

THOUGHTS

Fans of the characters and the new DCU will get a thrill out of seeing the new trailer. It brings the characters to live-action television in what looks to be a highly enjoyable way. Memories of the disastrous Ryan Reynolds movie seem to have been swept away with this small-screen reboot and reimagining of the classic comic book characters. After Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, Peacemaker, The Penguin, and the upcoming Clayface shows a new adult version of the characters. This fits in perfectly with what can be done with them. However, some fans and audiences may disagree with this approach, rather than having them family-friendly like Superman and the previous incarnation of the DCU. Perhaps this is the way to go, to make these characters fit a more adult audience rather than toning them down for families. But some may feel this is character assassination. Time will tell.
