Welcome to The Official UK Box Office Top 10. Here you’ll find the latest Box Office Top 10 and the biggest hits in cinemas right now.
This weekend at the UK box office, a revelation hit the box office with Steven Spielberg’s latest movie, and many films saw their totals fall as audience interest waned. Find out which films have held on the best last weekend, and which ones are dropping like stones.
(1) Disclosure Day
Steven Spielberg’s latest movie, Disclosure Day, opened to £5,504,987 this weekend, more than five times the opening of the director’s previous film, The Fabelmans (though it’s not a one-to-one comparison, as The Fabelmans was released in January 2023 and has a different appeal). Looking at the opening weekend to a similar film, Ready Player One, Disclosure Day opened to a comparable amount. Ready Player One brought in £5,113,041 on its first weekend in 2018 (unadjusted for inflation). Audiences are still very much interested in Spielberg’s blockbuster epics.

(2) Obsession
Still keeping audiences obsessed, Obsession brought in £1,517,066 in its fifth weekend. Its overall total has risen to £13,335,722, an amazing total for the film. It really has been the story of the summer, coming out of nowhere, yet, thanks to a low budget and small festival purchase total, has become wildly successful.
(3) Scary Movie
Dropping a harsh 66% in its second weekend, Scary Movie brought in £1,442,603 for its second weekend. The sixth installment in the franchise likely won’t have long legs at the box office, with a front-loaded weekend one providing most of its box office takings.

(4) Backrooms
Another front-loaded film, Backrooms, dropped a further 57% in its second weekend, bringing in £968,198. Its overall total has crossed the £10 million mark, currently standing at £10,700,066. The harsh drops shouldn’t fool anyone, though; this film has been another phenomenal success due to a low budget and standout direction.
(5) Masters of the Universe
Masters of the Universe unfortunately doesn’t have staying power at the box office, with its total collapsing by 67% in its second weekend to £869,469. It shares similar performance with The Mandalorian and Grogu, two aging franchises attempting to recapture audience attention at the cinema but not succeeding.

(6) Michael
Coming in at number six, Michael brings in £733,818 in its eighth weekend of release. The film is now dancing to a total tune of £51,758,848 in the UK, a staggering amount.
(7) The Mandalorian And Grogu
Speaking of The Mandalorian and Grogu, it appears at a dismal number seven at the weekend box office, bringing in a measly £500,713. It has a site average of only £886, one of the lowest in the top ten, meaning that any remaining moviegoers in the 565 cinemas the film is playing in were on empty screens. In terms of box office performance, this is no doubt disappointing for Disney.

(8) BTS WORLD TOUR ‘ARIRANG’ IN BUSAN: LIVE VIEWING (Concert)
Concert films are typically popular, though unfortunately, BTS WORLD TOUR ‘ARIRANG’ IN BUSAN: LIVE VIEWING didn’t draw in the crowds it likely hoped for, opening to a total of £291,042. The film will be out of cinemas after its short run.
(9) The Devil Wears Prada 2
Bringing in a sum of £236,668 in its seventh weekend, The Devil Wears Prada 2 demonstrates its continued legs at the box office. It has an overall total of £33,885,900, one of the highest in the UK box office so far this year.

(10) The Sheep Detectives
Spending what very likely is its final weekend in the top ten, The Sheep Detectives brings in £230,729 in its sixth weekend. The film’s total so far is £9,587,151, so it will likely just make £10 million once all is said and done.
Next weekend sees Toy Story 5 open in cinemas, and that will do very well.
