According to recent reports, Star Wars veteran Hayden Christensen is returning as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader in the Ahsoka series
We’ve known for some time that Star Wars veteran Hayden Christensen would be returning to the GFFA for the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series. But now, THR is reporting that a deal to bring Hayden back in the Ahsoka spin-off series is a done deal. If confirmed, Christensen will share the screen with Rosario Dawson as master and apprentice respectively.
THE REPORT STATES
The actor will reprise his role of Anakin Skywalker, aka Darth Vader, in Ahsoka, the latest Star Wars live-action series from Lucasfilm and Disney+, multiple sources tell The Hollywood Reporter. Rosario Dawson is starring as the fan-favorite character of Ahsoka Tano, a Jedi Knight survivor popular in the animation side of Star Wars who made her live-action debut in the second season of The Mandalorian.
Plot details are being kept in the far reaches of the Outer Rim but it is known that longtime Star Wars lightsaber wielder Dave Filoni is writing the series and exec producing with Jon Favreau. It is unclear how Skywalker, or for that matter, Vader, will figure into Ahsoka, which, like Mandalorian, is set five years after the events of Return of the Jedi, thus after Vader’s death. The character of Tano was the padawan (apprentice) of Skywalker so the latter’s appearance in the series could be in the form of flashbacks. But knowing a thing or two about how the Force works, sources also posit the theory the character could be a Force Ghost.
Disney was as silent as Darth Maul when asked to comment. Production is due to begin in early 2022.
RETURN OF ANAKIN SKYWALKER/DARTH VADER
Presumably, Anakin’s involvement in the series will be restricted to an appearance as either a Force Ghost; or in flashback sequences. But, one thing is for certain. With Hayden already back in the fold for the Obi-Wan series; it isn’t a stretch to imagine him signing on for multiple appearances across the growing saga. Which is a tantalizing prospect. And the possibility of Anakin reuniting with his former apprentice in live-action is a welcome one.
Until this report is verified, we best take it with a pinch of salt. But THR is a heavyweight in the trade, and their track report is above reproach. Therefore, I think it’s safe to say that somewhere down the line; the master and the apprentice will meet in live-action. And that is an exciting prospect. All will be revealed when the Ahsoka series arrives on Disney Plus soon.
