Dan Stevens Joins The Godzila vs Kong Sequel

Deadline reports that the actor will be in Australia later this summer to film the next movie in the Warner Bros. Monsterverse! Get ready for the Godzilla VS Kong sequel!

It just had to happen, didn’t it? After declaring that last year’s ‘Godzilla VS Kong’ was the closing chapter of the Warner Bros. MonsterVerse, a sequel is happening. We had already heard rumors of a ‘Godzilla VS Kong 2’ being in the works. Now it seems the film is in the casting stage ahead of a late summer shoot in Australia. Deadline is reporting that British actor Dan Stevens has signed on to reunite with director Adam Wingard. The pair previously worked together on the film ‘The Guest.’ Now, they appear to be heading into Hollow Earth together. With Wingard back firmly in the director’s seat.

NO DETAILS AS YET

Naturally, the filmmakers are keeping their cards close to their chests regarding the sequel. There are no plot points or storylines available for the film. And we still await further cast and crew announcements. But we can assume that the two biggest titans of the silver screen will once again face off before joining forces to take on a much larger threat. Adam Wingard has previously spoken about a sequel to last year’s monster hit, stating:

“The clear starting point we teed up (In Godzilla VS Kong), exploring Hollow Earth, I think there is a lot more to do there. This is a pre-history of Planet Earth, where all the titans come from. We tee up some mystery in this film, things I want to see resolved and explored and pushed to the next level.”

THOUGHTS

I, for one, would relish another film in the MonsterVerse. I mean, who wouldn’t want to see the pair clash one more time. I had a lot of fun with ‘Godzilla VS Kong’ but did have some problems with it. For one, Kong seemed to be fighting with one hand tied behind his back. They also ‘Kiddified’ him too much for my tastes. Kong is king and he came across as a friendly beast instead of the monster that he is. Also, Godzilla was relegated to a cameo player in his own movie. For a film that pitches the pair against each other, Godzilla appeared and then vanished for a vast amount of the film. That needs to be addressed in the sequel.

Yes, the climax was totally enjoyable and I admit to cheering at certain points during the final battle. But the film took an age to get there. And it papered over the vast gaps that the script had in it. Hopefully, this time, they will give us the TRUE battle between the pair we’ve all been hoping for.

Would you be interested in another trip to Hollow Earth? Would you be interested in seeing the two titans battle it out once again? What would you hope to see in the sequel? And what other creatures from the Monsterverse would you like them to bring in? Let us know your thoughts!
