The visionary director to get behind the camera for more adventures with The Mandalorian
Though we are still some way off from enjoying the first episode of the landmark Star Wars live-action TV series; The Mandalorian, excitement amongst the fans is growing by the day. And amongst its creator, it seems.
With his workload preoccupied with the launch of Disney’s live-action remake of The Lion King, visionary director Jon Favreau was unable to get behind the camera and direct an episode of his landmark Star Wars series. Despite writing the entire season and overseeing the vast majority of its production, The Lion King shooting schedule dominated his calendar leaving his peers Dave Filoni, Bryce Dallas Howard and Taika Waititi to take the reins and guide the series home.
Despite Disney+ failing to greenlight a second season as of press time, Favreau is already hard at work writing season two and prepping for another run and this time he intends to get behind the camera. Whilst speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Favreau said:
“We’re working on season 2, writing, prepping with the directors and getting ready to direct myself, actually. I didn’t get a chance the last time around because I was doing Lion King. So I’ll step in for one of them.”
Of course, Disney+ is yet to officially greenlight a second series. However, with Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni behind the wheel and the recent trailer rejuvenating what has been a disillusioned fanbase, I think it’s only a matter of time before season two gets the official go-ahead. The Force demands it!
Starring Pedro Pascal as the titular bounty hunter, The Mandalorian also stars Giancarlo Esposito, Gina Carano, Nick Nolte, Carl Weathers, Emily Swallow, Omid Abtahi, Taika Waititi, Ming-Na Wen, and Werner Herzog.
The first episode of The Mandalorian will premiere when Disney+ launches on November 12th 2019. The UK will be forced to endure an agonising wait until February when Disney+ hits our shores.
