Review | Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans
Trollhunters Rise of the Titans is a beautiful conclusion to the series. It’s action-packed, fun, poignant, and streaming on Netflix NOW!
After three series, the Tales of Arcadia are finally coming to an end with a movie – Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans. It’s bittersweet because I was always looking forward to what happens next and now it’s over. But, it’s been an amazing ride. And I’m happy with the stories they told.
The beginning sets us right away in the mood with a big fight scene between our heroes and the Arcane Order. It’s an action-packed movie. Our heroes are facing their greatest challenge yet – fighting the Titans and the Arcana Order. It’s a task with a lot of obstacles. As you can expect, it’s heavy on the action, it’s impressive! Everyone gets to fight and have their moment of “glory”. Speaking of action, there is a scene that feels right out of Pacific Rim with the Gun Robot vs a Titan.
But the story also finds time for the usual fun and also some emotional moments. The writers know exactly when the story needs a serious tone and when it needs a lighter tone. Because, it’s a conclusion, there are some poignant scenes. I cried a few times. Saying goodbye is always difficult. To be honest, the Tales of Arcadia have made me cry before. When this saga gets emotional, it really does. It hit me right in the feels. Endings never satisfy everyone and it’s perfectly fine. So I’m glad, I’m satisfied with it. It’s a beautiful conclusion. It’s action-packed, fun, and poignant.
This conclusion does not go easy on our heroes. They are challenged throughout the movie and sometimes have to make difficult choices. The last time we saw Jim, he had returned in his human form but with the amulet broken. So he has to deal with being a human without powers again. After everything that happened, it’s not easy for him. There is a lot of doubt for him and the people around him. Can he still be the Trollhunter? And what can he do to be a hero now? Jim’s final journey goes full circle. It started with him so it makes sense that the main focus of the conclusion is him. His story is so compelling. I do wish Anton Yelchin was still there to voice him, he was gone too soon. Emile Hirsch has done a good job but it is not the same.
Toby Domzalski’s journey in this movie is also one worth mentioning. He was there with Jim right from start. He doesn’t have any powers, he’s just a human with badass armor and a hammer. So against Titans, it’s not efficient. Just like Jim, he has to find his place in all of this.
Jeff Danna has composed a great score just like he did for Wizards. It has this heroic/fantasy vibe to it. While The Crystal Method brings their electronic style in the end credits.
The visuals are on par with the previous series. It’s always colorful with beautiful attention to detail. And the character’s faces are so expressive.
Trollhunters Rise of the Titans is a beautiful conclusion to the series. It’s action-packed, fun, and poignant.
