Lionsgate to shoot John Wick Chapters 4 and 5 back to back!
The ‘John Wick‘ franchise has given us three amazing films to date. The last one ‘John Wick Chapter 3: Parabellum‘ was, before release, considered to be the end of the series. But of course, the filmmakers decided to leave the ending open for a further sequel. When the film opened big and went on to gross millions at the box office, it didn’t take long for them to announce the fourth adventure for our favorite dog-loving assassin. We were content in the knowledge that Keanu Reeves would be back as Wick again sometime in the future. Well, the news just got a lot more interesting. During a Lionsgate earnings call yesterday, CEO John Feltheimer revealed that not only would there be a ‘John Wick Chapter 4‘ but there would also be a ‘John Wick Chapter 5‘.
Feltheimer is quoted as saying:
“We’re also busy preparing scripts for the next two installments of our ‘John Wick’ action franchise, with ‘John Wick 4’ slated to hit theatres Memorial Day weekend 2022”
Not being content with dropping that piece of information during the call, Feltheimer also revealed that they:
“Hope to shoot both John Wick 4 & 5 back to back when Keanu becomes available early next year”
Keanu Reeves is currently busy filming his return as Neo in ‘The Matrix 4‘ which was delayed during the coronavirus shutdown of all film and TV productions. When he has finished his commitments to that film, it sounds like he will be jumping straight into playing Wick again. I welcome the news that ‘The Baba Yaga’ will be returning in not one but two all-action movies. Although I think the first film is still the best, the two sequels were terrific in their own right and showed the audience more of the goings-on in the world of the murky assassin and behind the doors of The Continental Hotel.
There have been no other cast announcements but they can’t leave out Ian McShane’s ‘Winston’ or Lance Reddick’s ‘Charon’, the Continental’s concierge. Hell, they could also bring back John Leguizamo as ‘Aurelio’ and Lawrence Fishburne as ‘The Bowery King’. While we’re at it, how about Ruby Rose as mute assassin ‘Ares’ from Chapter 2 and Halle Berry as ‘Sofia’ from Chapter 3. The possibilities are endless. And as of this moment, pure speculation.
Whatever they end up being called, whoever returns to further the story and whatever the films are about, we can all agree that the return of ‘John Wick‘ in 2022 is something we can all look forward to. And with a fifth movie to follow, I think we can all say that Yeah, we think he’s back!
