Universal Pictures delays F9: The Fast Saga until June and Minions: The Rise Of Gru until 2022
It was expected that May could be just a tad too soon to release a big summer blockbuster. Despite a vaccine for the coronavirus now being distributed around the world, the studios are still playing it cautiously with regards to their big hitters.
It comes as no surprise that ‘F9: The Fast Saga‘ (Fast & Furious 9) has seen its release pushed back from its release date of May 28th to June 25th. The film, the ninth in the now twenty-year-old saga was delayed from last summer and had moved back by a month already from its date of April 2nd.
UNIVERSAL DELAY
It is a smart move from Universal Pictures to delay the film just a little while longer. It gives the world a chance to get at least their first vaccination injection. Giving them some protection inside a movie theatre ahead of what is a packed summer schedule of movies. All eyes will now inevitably turn to Disney and how they respond with regards to ‘Black Widow‘ which is also due for release in May.
Universal has also decided to move back the release of the animated sequel ‘Minions: The Rise Of Gru‘. What’s more, the movie has been removed from the summer 2021 release schedule entirely. It has now moved from July 2nd of this year to slot into July 1st, 2022 instead. Delaying the film by two years from its original release date.
FAST 9
In ‘F9‘, Vin Diesel once again leads the line alongside Michelle Rodriguez, Jordanna Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, and Chris ‘Ludacris’ Bridges. Joining them are Nathalie Emmanuel, Helen Mirren, Charlize Theron, and the returning Sung Kang. With John Cena rounding out the cast as Dom and Mia’s brother, Jakob Toretto.
‘F9: The Fast Saga‘ will now open on June 25th. ‘Minions: The Rise Of Gru‘ will now open July 1st, 2022.
