Is Melina Vostakoff Destined To Become The Next Great Marvel Villain?
What does the future hold for Melina Vostakoff? Is she destined to become the next great Marvel super-villain?
Black Widow introduced us to four new Marvel characters that have extensive storylines in the comics; Yelena Belova, Red Guardian, Melina Vostakoff, and Taskmaster.
Melina Vostakoff, featured in the film as a surrogate mother to Natasha Romanoff and Yelena Belova when they were children. Helped Black Widow take down the Red Room and its leader, General Dreykov. And while it was nice to see her in such a motherly light and as an ally, I can’t help feeling that her turn against her boss was a bit too easy.
In the comics, Melina Vostakoff went by another alias; the Iron Maiden. See, she built herself a suit of armor that protected her from physical and energy damage. And she became an agent of evil as an archnemesis for Black Widow. Of course, the story has been altered for her MCU role. But what if Melina had a darker plan in store? What if she got rid of Dreykov only to take his place?
It would be a fascinating turn of events for the character. As well as adding an extra layer of depth for the potential Black Widow sequel. A movie that could provide that emotional context that made the first Black Widow so enjoyable. Because let’s be honest, Melina Vostakoff is kind of creepy. She seemed fascinated with discovering how to control people via chemical subjugation. And her treatment of that pig was brutal…and she didn’t even flinch! This woman has a dark side and I have a feeling that side of her will be unleashed in the future.
